Legal Aid; I have had over 20 clients in 21 years stuck on legal aid, whereby their bill escalates at 8%/yr (£3.30/day) which is a land charge against their property. Not one of these 21 clients understood or had it explained clearly during their divorces. Along with the emotional stress of divorce, the added financial burden means one of the following; a) they leave debt as a legacy to their children instead of an inheritance. b) they struggle to put food on the table c) often the partners' legal aid is put on the 'marital home' and then absconds, leaving the ex-spouse with double debt. I am proposing a national push to end this, correct this, address this. 21 of these clients believed that legal aid was 'aid' and had no idea their £5-15k divorce would end up £35-55k debt mostly higher than the equity in their properties. Has this issue been addressed yet on this forum? thank you, lucy
